| description | This study shows how much time people spend commuting to nearby green spaces. It was founded on a hypothesis that connects two variables: the amount of time spent on these trips and the urbanization processes that three neighborhoods in Quito, Ecuador, went through in their origins. GIS software was used to obtain travel time data, allowing for a high level of accuracy. The resulting figures show a significant difference between the neighborhood formed through a planned process and the other two neighborhoods formed through unplanned processes. The most representative figures correspond to displacements made by people with some mobility impairment, in this category for the "La Kennedy" neighborhood; no lot was found to be more than 8 minutes away, whereas 20% of the lots in the "Comité del Pueblo" neighborhood exceeded that figure. 74% of the lots in the "Buenos Aires" neighborhood were more than 8 minutes away; some were even 47 minutes away from the nearest park.\nDuring the implementation of this research, a methodological scheme was developed, which was useful not only for making a diagnosis of the situation but also for making recommendations on suitable locations for green space. It has great value as a new tool for urban planning because of the aforementioned and its adaptability to other types of displacements and territorial scales. |
