Sumario:The emergence of new reading practices in the Renaissance, specifically in Venice at the end of the fifteenth century, caused the creation of a new editorial style marked by a smaller format of the book and the use of typography inspired by humanist manuscripts. The editions of Aldo Manuzio and Nicolas Jenson are models of this kind of books and their attributes represent a starting point for design studies such as ergonomics and readability in textbooks. This work aims to appreciate some of these qualities, through the design of a typeface and a book collection focused on Latin American culture. It seeks to study historical features in typography and relate them to current ones in order to recognize constants and variables. The performance of the font and its confrontation with legibility theories will let explore the aesthetics of book design and typography for long texts.
